Showpiece in a slender shaft

Hydraulic system creates space for an elegant cabin

The limited amount of space in this representative period building in Hamburg proved to be a particular challenge. Using a special hydraulic construction and a high degree of technical creativity, the LUTZ Elevator specialists succeeded in incorporating a visual highlight into the stairwell.

Shaft column

The designers used a delicate, pre-painted angular framework that not only maximises the cabin’s size by benefiting from the curvature of the staircase but also perfectly harmonises with the visual appearance of this period building.

The four-sided, all-round glazing of the shaft frame is a most unconventional design as the panels to the left and right of the door are rarely made of glass. The design is rounded off by the use of doors made entirely of glass that are guided at the top and the bottom.

Cabin

The lift cabin is distinguished by its low depth of 460 mm and a width of 1100 mm. The narrow side walls, made of titan-covered metal, shimmer in a bronze hue, and the two-winged glass inspection door doubles as the rear wall of the cabin. The cabin ceiling, which is made of titanium-covered metal, is inlaid with a backlit, frosted glass panel. The finishing touches on this high-quality elevator cabin are the short brass handrail and the brass control panel.

Hydraulic drive

Thanks to the hydraulic elevator construction, which works with a central piston, full use was made of the already narrow shaft in this period building as this system requires no counterweights.
