Showpiece on the Kurfürstendamm

Melticulous restoration of a Wilhelmine beauty

The historic passenger lift and the heritage-protected shaft in this grand and much frequented office and retail property underwent extensive refurbishment; at the same time, the elevator’s inner workings were equipped with the latest technology.

Shaft in a wire mesh fence

The heritage-protected elevator shaft with its distinctive wire mesh fence was repaired, thus allowing it to be preserved in its original state. It lends a unique flair to the lift installation as well as adding a distinctive charm to the entire lobby area. The stairwell lighting was also given a technical facelift and now works reliably, having been updated to the latest energy efficiency standards.

Uncluttered shaft

Thanks to its drum construction with a separate machine room, the transparent lift shaft boasts an uncluttered interior. By doing without counterweights, individual ropes assure a safe and reliable operation.

Wooden bench at the cabins rear wall

One of the charms of this elevator cab is the small wooden bench on the rear cabin wall. It was preserved, inviting passengers to relax while enjoying the ride – just as people used to do at the beginning of the last century.

Brass control panels with special buttons

Brass and dark wood are typical design elements in historic lifts. Here they were lovingly restored to their new shiny splendour. It goes without saying that these control panels, which feature special buttons, conceal modern technology ensuring reliable lift operations.

Cabin with swing doors

The historic cabin door, which was meticulously restored, consists of a combination of wood and glass elements. This automatic swing door construction requires little maintenance and is very reliable in day-to-day operations.
